The 45th World Hospital Congress Opens with a statement on sustainability

They officially opened the 45th world hospital congress on 4th October 2022  with an attempt from an international hospital federation and its commitment to raising the awareness and support of the healthcare staff to deliver sustainable healthcare app services.

Members of the global community of the hospital and healthcare service provider at IHF’s General Assembly then voted to approve a statement “Addressing climate change as an integral part of the healthcare delivery system”.

On releasing this statement, Ronald Lavater, CEO of the IHF, underlined the importance of a sustainable healthcare system.

Climate change impacts healthcare organizations, increasing the great threat to our future health. Hospitals and health systems are on the top regarding responding to its consequences as we are only beginning to address the sector’s contribution to the issue. At the IHF, our members agree that we must raise awareness and manage the health systems in more sustainable ways.

Sustainable custom healthcare software will reduce the burden on hospitals and the health systems and positively impact the quality of life, resilience and well-being of the communities they serve. IHF’s statement is a call to action to address climate change as an integral part of the healthcare delivery system.

This statement has received endorsement from various international organizations in the healthcare sector, including ISQua, the World Patients Alliance, the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the International Alliance of Patients organization, and the International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services. It established an IHF’s Geneva Center this year to help healthcare leaders towards sustainability. An IHF and Geneva sustainability centre will continuously seek endorsements and increase the take-up of this statement.

Sustainability is the theme of this year’s World Hospital Congress. Ahead of the opening ceremony, Deborah J. Bowen, IHF President and CEO and President of the American College of Healthcare executive, explained its importance:

We are happy and excited to bring the world hospital congress to the United Arab Emirates again. We look forward to listening to the hard work and efforts of our partners, the Dubai Health Authority, that fosters innovative and integrated primary models and enhances community involvement.

This 45th World Hospital Congress theme is “Global Learnings, Local Actions: Sustainable Healthcare”. Dr Ramadan AI Blooshi, chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, said that the global meeting would discuss the challenges and solutions of the healthcare workforce, ways and procedures to ensure the healthcare providers’ well-being and leadership role in creating and redefining the successful health institutions.

In the opening speech, excellency Awadh Seghayer AI Ketbi, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, said:

Organizing and hosting this conference reflect the capabilities of UAE and Dubai as the international hub for healthcare services. It will also highlight Dubai’s excellence in the healthcare sector and is following the vision and guidance of his highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AI Maktoum, vice president and Prime minister of UAE and the Ruler of Dubai.

The conference will be a great opportunity for the participants and the decision-makers to discuss potential solutions to overcome global health challenges. In particular, it will discuss sustainability in healthcare. It also has an important opportunity to share experiences and expertise, strengthen relationships, and will discuss the latest concepts and prospects for cooperation among all its participants.

With its expected participation of more than 1,000 delegates from about 60 territories and countries, the World Hospital Congress is the premier event for global healthcare and hospital leaders. This year it took place at the Dubai International Convention and the Exhibition centre.

Over three days of the conference, the leaders and decision-makers in the healthcare community will share knowledge and experiences. Exchange new ideas and innovations, and also connect with the senior executives.
